Buhallin's Army Transport Planner

I've sold my Necrons on eBay and made out well enough that I thought it might be time to upgrade my army transport a bit. I have the Sabol Designs Army Transport bag (Mark I), but I've been stuck with having to use 1" trays for my Warmachine minis. As you probably already know, Warmachine models don't fit very well in 1" trays, making things quite a hassle.

So, I went about looking into my options for new trays. Being a Cryx player, I'm both blessed and cursed with having Terminus and the Deathjack. While both of these models were great fun to paint and play, they are problematic in terms of storage.

Those of us without the finances to afford Battlefoam have to make due with what we can, which typically means "pick and pluck" foam trays. Pre-cut trays are always more sturdy, but you'll not find this option available in anything but the 2" thick tray, let alone finding anything "pre-cut" that will hold the likes of Big T and DJ. What it meant was I had to carefully choose how to do things, and do it right the first time (unless I want to pay for even more trays!)

With that in mind, I want to make sure everyone knows that there is a program out there that can help you tremendously with maximizing your "pick and pluck" foam trays. It's called Buhallin's Army Transport Planner, and can be found here: http://keallen.dyndns.org/warmachine/TransportPlanner.html

Using this program, you can pre-fit models onto the grid long before having to pull out any foam. With it, I was able to move around the pieces until I had the perfect setup for my trays! Oh, and by the way the program is free, and runs on Java so it will work on Windows or Mac!

Selling My Necrons

It took a while, but I finally got my Necrons up on eBay. Over 20 auctions listed - I decided to sell the army in pieces rather than together, figuring more potential buyers at smaller price ranges as well as avoiding the "eggs in one basket" auction that either sells or it doesn't.

Anyway, this is my (Jesse's) official send-off to 40k, and the end of my GW purchases altogether (barring some strange Necromunda fascination hitting me).

If you're looking to bid on any of my auctions, look for seller 'xdeathcompanyx'. Mine will have a purple background in the pictures.

Back of the Base Tips

Here's some hints to using the back of your base effectively. It works well for models you have multiples of and for unit leaders. Enjoy!

Titan Gladiator and Harbinger

Quick update here. Wanted to show off some recent painting done by Jesse for some friends - The Harbinger and a Titan Gladiator.

Warmahordes Combos!

Something I've noticed about Warmachine and Hordes is the ability to use models together in such a way to cause devastating effects. In games like Magic: the Gathering, these interactions are known as 'combos'. Many combos become very popular and are widely talked about amongst the community. With that in mind, I've noticed that such WM/H combos don't seem to be discussed much... either I'm not looking in the right places, or the information just isn't being posted.

So, I'm trying to figure out if people are being tight-lipped about these interactions or if they just assume everyone else knows about them. In an effort to get more discussion going, I'd like to know what your favorite Warmachine and Hordes combos are and how you use them! Feel free to leave a comment below detailing the models used and how they interact.

I'll start it off with a few of my own.

Cankerworm or Slayer and pGaspy (and an arc node): Cast Scything Touch on the 'jack and position it for a charge (preferably a high armor and damage jack/beast). Using the nearby arc node, cast Parasite on the intended charge target. Put 3 focus on your charging jack during the turn you intend to charge. Charge with your jack, and use its special attack (Bite or Combo Strike). Assuming base armor 20 on the charge target for example, you'll be doing around 3D6+8 actual damage. Buy an additional attack and boost the damage with the remaining focus, dealing roughly 3D6 damage after taking armor into account. On average rolls, this will do about 28 damage to the target, either totally destroying it or leaving it with very little damage left.

This one is much easier to explain - Gorman DiWulfe and Pistol Wraith. Again choose a relatively big target and lock it down for a turn. Start by getting Gorman to Black Oil the target. On a hit, the target (and anything else in the AoE) suffers a penalty to MAT and DEF, cannot make ranged or magic attacks, and must forfeit either its movement or action. Shoot with the Pistol Wraith - with it's lowered DEF, you're likely to get both attacks to hit, which means you get to Chain Attack: Death Chill. The target must forfeit its movement or action. You've basically shut the offending model down from doing anything other than casting non-offensive spells, popping their feat, or using an ability that doesn't require an action.

So there you have it, some fun shenanigans you can pull. Again, please post your dirty tricks in the comments below, and hopefully we can build up some WarmaHordes combos for all to try!

Iron Painter 5: Final Results

Shawn heads off with Jake, Drew, and Roy to play a game of WarmaHordes, leaving Jesse and Damon to finish up. Jesse completes Gorman and Damon decides to finish the multijack another day... there's a battle going on and we want to see it! Anyway, here's the last of the pictures for Iron Painter 5. Thanks again to Tinman_XL for inspiring us to join in the painting challenge!

Iron Painter 5: Shawn Finishes First

Shawn completes the Blighted Nyss Archer in about two hours, and it looks pretty nice! Damon gets some gold on the multijack and Jesse gets most of Gorman's colors down.

Iron Painter 5: After the First Hour

Jesse gets Gorman's suit painted green and begins working on the cloak and hat. Shawn gets a good deal done on the Blighted Nyss Archer - looks like he'll be finishing early! Damon makes some progress on his multijack, adding some brown as a basecoat for gold.

Iron Painter 5: It Begins!

There were three of us painting this time around. Jesse chose Gorman Di Wulfe, Shawn chose a Blighted Nyss Archer unit leader (converted), and Damon chose his heavy multijack.

Scenario Tweaks

We've made some changes to the scenarios currently posted on the site. For the most part, it involved increasing the radial deployment size and correcting some typos. We could use some comments on the Ambuscade scenario as it needs some deployment tweaks.

Anyway, check out the Scenarios Page for the changes - more scenarios will be on the way soon!

Iron Painter 4: Complete!

Iron Painter 4: Ghordson Driller

Iron Painter 4: Wroughthammer Rockram

Iron Painter 4: Cankerworm
And here's the completed jacks - Ghordson Driller, Wroughthammer Rockram, and Cankerworm!

Iron Painter 4: The Final Stretch

Iron Painter 4: 4 hours in
The Searforge jack's weapons are started, and the Cankerworm is done except for a final touch on the base.

Iron Painter 4: Snow with a Good Chance of Death

Iron Painter 4: 3 hours 30 minutes in
Shawn adds the head and chest to the model and puts snow on the base, and Jesse finishes up the metallics and washes. Shawn has only the weapons left to do, and Jesse is almost done as well!

Iron Painter 4: Face Off

Iron Painter 4: 3 hours in
Shawn works on some details of the Searforge Jack's body, and Jesse completes the bronzework parts on the Cankerworm.

Iron Painter 4: Down and Dirty

Iron Painter 4: 2 hours 30 mins in
The Searforge jack gets some more battle damage and grime, while the Cankerworm gets a rusty look.

Iron Painter 4: No Subtitle!

Iron Painter 4: 2 hours in
Shawn gave his jack a wash on the green and metallics, while Jesse highlighted the Cankerworm and gave it a blue wash to darken it up.

Iron Painter 4: Jealousy!

Iron Painter 4: 1 hour, 30 minutes in
The Cankerworm gets a blue drybrush effect and some gold highlights to the base. I know it looks almost Cygnarian at the moment, but bear with me! The frontplate of the Searforge jack gets some battle damage, presumably the cankerworm is jealous of the sweet paintjob!

Iron Painter 4: Gears and Hammers

Iron Painter 4: 1 hour in
Shawn continues on the chestplate, adding a checker pattern and Searforge Commission logo, while Jesse base coats the Cankerworm a deep blue and works on the base some more.

Iron Painter 4: I Found a Skull!

Iron Painter 4: 30 minutes in
Shawn is working on the chestplate and body of his warjack, and Jesse has started on the base's scrapwork. While painting Jesse found a skull hidden amongst the debris!

Iron Painter 4: It Begins!

Iron Painter 4: Our Entries
Our entries for Iron Painter 4: Shawn has a magnetized Wroughthammer Rockram/Ghordson Driller and Jesse has a Cankerworm. Both are primed and ready to go!

Iron Painter 4: Revenge of the Robots

First, an apology to our readers for the lapse in updates. Some technical issues kept us from posting new pictures, but we are back on track!

We're joining Tinman XL (host of SteampoweredTV and contributor of DiceRage) in the Iron Painter competition. We can't make it to Bakersfield to be there in person, but we're definitely going to paint and display our works here!

We're kicking off hopefully in about 2 hours, with regular updates as we progress. Stay tuned!
